In 2017, Local 755 worked with our County Executive, Jim Tedesco III, before the completion of our present contract, to put in place a $15 minimum wage increase. Bergen County then became the first County in the state of New Jersey to provide this for full time government employees. Our UNION led by example, and showed the rest of the State that this is possible.
On February 4, 2019, Gov. Phil Murphy, signed into law a bill that would raise the minimum wage to $15 an hour by 2024. The gradual increase was a compromise our state legislature agreed to.
On Tuesday, February 5, 2019, at Bergen New Bridge Medical Center, Local 755 Executive Board Members, President, Joe Gautier, Vice President Jackie Porzio, and Area Vice President of 1 BCP/JC, Dan Kotkin, celebrated the raising of New Jersey’s minimum wage to $15/hour. BNBMC CEO Deborah Visconi announced that the hospital will also pay its employees at least $15/hour by the end of 2019.
